Love is Blind

Special Gallery Exhibit and Auction

An inspirational art exhibit celebrating the remarkable paintings of blind and visually impaired youths and their best buddies, the Love is Blind gallery exhibit on May 21 at Around the Coyote Gallery was a great success. At the event, a silent auction of works donated by over two dozen artists from the Flat Iron Arts Building and Los Manos Gallery raised funds to help support the mission of the One Small Voice Foundation and for a “Love Tour” of the children’s paintings to children’s hospitals throughout the country.

The Love is Blind project was created to encourage and empower the expression and views of students of Farnsworth School in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago.

What Love Means

Shown below are the artworks created November 18, 2004, at Gallery 37 in Chicago, by eleven visually impaired and blind students and their companions from Farnsworth School. The theme was what love means to them.

This incredible project was inspired by the creative juices of Kimberly Grear and Marisa Brown. Kimberly’s dream project came to life with the help of Michelle and Kristin, two wonderful art therapists. The project has been inspiring to witness and was made possible by several generous donors. The project has helped raise money for optic nerve hypoplasia research being conducted at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
